Embryo transfer in human assisted reproduction is a procedure in which embryos produced after in vitro fertilization (IVF) are placed into the uterus of a female.  It is estimated that up to 85% of replaced embryos fail to implant, despite the selection of apparently normal embryos for transfer. Many factors have been proposed to explain the disparity between embryonic development and pregnancy rates. It has been suggested that approximately 30% of failure in assisted reproductive technology (ART) is due to poor performance in the procedure of embryo transfer, making the embryo transfer procedure a crucial step in IVF and an important skill to be mastered.
