NEEDS ASSESSMENT and IDENTIFICATION OF PRACTICE GAP
Vitrification is rapidly becoming the cryopreservation method of choice for many in vitro fertilization (IVF) laboratories. The techniques for vitrification can be very challenging. There are several media and vitrification vessels that can be used effectively within the IVF laboratory, each with potential strengths and weaknesses. Overview and training with various approaches are essential, especially with growing concerns over the safety of vitrification solutions used, cryo-security, and accepting vitrified eggs/embryos in unfamiliar vitrification devices. Serious quality-control challenges are ahead in this era of cryobiology. The educational need for this activity was based on the 2014 gap analysis review by the ASRM CME Committee.
At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
1. Summarize the progress made in the vitrification of oocytes, cleavage-stage embryos, and blastocysts in the last decade.
2. Identify quality control factors involved in optimizing clinical vitrification and alleviating potential problems.
3. Identify various devices used for vitrification.
4. Discuss the use of vitrification for ovarian tissue cryopreservation.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of new and experienced laboratory scientists and allied health professionals involved in assisted reproduction.
SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of this educational activity requires the learner to:
· View a course overview page, containing all CME and disclosure information, including acknowledgement of commercial support and disclosure of unlabeled use, prior to the start of the module.
· Complete a 10-question pre-exam prior to each module. Learners should note any pre-exam questions answered incorrectly for clarification during module study.
· Be given the option of downloading a printed syllabus containing the presentation and narrative.
· Participate in the interactive activity by listening to the audio narration that is synchronized with the PowerPoint presentation; this can be stopped, reversed, or advanced as desired.
· After completion of the entire series, take a 10-question post-exam, with a minimum score of 70 percent correct in two attempts.
· Complete the evaluation survey.
· Print certificate of completion.
